This oil painting is meant to visually convey what the artist feels is the steady loss of liberty and wellbeing of Americans citizens. Yet it also predicts a means of recovery through the people themselves.
In the painting, a golden crown representing Trump’s authoritarianism leans against Liberty’s head, and is about to topple over. But a group of citizens on the left reach upward, catching Liberty’s fall and save her. Their success is foretold by their standing on solid ground, whereas the gold crown is precariously supported by a gold toilet (upon which Trump’s profile image is emblazoned), which itself is teetering upon a royal robe having no structure.

The sea, nature, and quiet living inspire Gary to create his meditative and eclectic oil paintings.
Since 2021 his home has been the Acadian Peninsula, an environment encouraging reflective art
and Gary’s continuous process of imbuing imagined objects and settings with a measure of
realism. For nearly 40 years Gary has painted to express and share tangible perspectives to which
viewers may relate and from which new insights may begin. He writes:
I am a painter roused by human relationships – to one’s self, to one another, and to the worlds
around and before.
